Ship attacks in and around the Strait of Hormuz reportedly hit a record high in October 2026

Reuters reports that the Washington Institute for Near East Policy recorded 28 confirmed and reported ship attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and nearby waterways by October 23, making October its worst month on record for attacks there. The institute counted 113 attacks since the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran began on February 28. A Reuters review of maritime data found that 11 supertankers were damaged in October.
