Saudi Arabia’s reported mBridge exit draws conflicting interpretations

One post calls the reported departure a major reversal for a China-led dollar alternative. Another says Saudi Arabia’s central bank completed a proof of concept in 2025 and moved on, rather than abandoning China.

TLDR

One post claims Saudi Arabia withdrew from a Chinese-led digital currency and blockchain payment system, portraying it as a major reversal for an alternative to the US dollar. A separate comment disputes the “withdrawal” framing, saying Saudi Arabia’s central bank, SAMA, joined mBridge to test financial technology, completed the proof of concept in 2025 and moved on. That comment argues Saudi Arabia can work with China, the US and others without being locked into any one system.

@Trump_donald07JUST IN: 🇸🇦🇨🇳 Saudi Arabia withdraws from Chinese-led digital currency & blockchain payment system that reduces reliance on the US dollar. A MAJOR REVERSAL IN THE GLOBAL DOLLAR ALTERNATIVE!
@Jjjhf6Calling this a “withdrawal” as if Saudi Arabia suddenly abandoned China is deliberately misleading. SAMA joined mBridge to test a financial technology platform, completed the proof of concept in 2025, and moved on. Saudi Arabia can work with China, the US and others without being locked into anyone’s system.
