Isn't this the ideal time for Ukraine to ban Telegram?
Telegram is owned by a russian billionaire, Pavlo Durov. He has made it possible for the FSB to access chats on the app, whether secret or not. It's known to be an unsafe messenger for the most part. That being said, most of Ukrainian society uses Telegram because "it's convenient", "it's a great messenger", "it's the only way to contact family in occupied territories" etc. The last of those reasons being the only one to justify Telegram as a society standard. Now that's just not the case anymore, I don't see why Ukrainians will continue paying for premium subscriptions and propping up this mess of an app.
Isn't it about time that Ukraine bans the app like they banned VK back in 2017?
Russia's communications regulator, Roskomnadzor, began restricting the operation of Telegram on Feb. 10, targeting one of the country's most widely used messaging platforms. The move fits into the Kremlin's broader push to replace Western digital services with domestic alternatives as it advances plans for a so-called 'sovereign internet,' tightening state control over online communications. Roskomnadzor said it will continue to impose consistent restrictions on the Telegram messenger 'in order to enforce Russian legislation and ensure the protection of citizens.' Telegram users across Russia reported widespread disruptions for a second consecutive day.
