Comet Browser Review

Comet Browser Review - Image

First of all, I’d like to start with: No, I’m not a MAX user! I do pay for Pro, but got early access thanks to the awesome folks at the Perplexity team. tl;dr; Comet is the first browser that feels like a true AI-powered agent, not just another extension. Alright i think it's crazy, but I honestly see Comet from Perplexity as more of an OS than just a browser. The deeper I dive into browser-based apps, the smoother and more powerful everything feels. Switching back to standard web versions almost seems archaic but half the time, I don’t even bother opening them anymore. Seriously, I just don’t. In Comet, my whole digital world revolves around the Perplexity interface. I’m not really into doomscrolling anyway, so I don’t miss the usual social feeds and honestly, I think it’s pretty awesome how much time it saves me. (Alright, I’ll admit, I do end up doomscrolling Digg sometimes... oops!) So yes, I still use the Digg web version regularly. But what’s really great is being able to instantly fact-check something or get a quick summary of a long article with just a blink. Digg is really the only social I use actively, with X running in the background because I’ve got some connections there. So missing out on the usual X feeds? Not a problem. I can catch up on everything that happened on X in a blink, without even opening it and I can react right from within Perplexity. It’s kind of insane. But it also blurs the line with AI-generated content, since bots and agents are suddenly way more accessible. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Just another Chromium browser with some tacked-on AI?” Well, yes but also, absolutely not. Some wild stuff I’ve tried: ✦ Indexing all my X followings, categorizing them, and even cross-referencing them on Threads. Just to see if it could be done. Spoiler: it works. ✦ Went further, created a new account, and asked Comet to repeat the process. This time, since it had my Threads account, I told it to follow those connections and cross-post my latest items. Done. Didn’t have to lift a finger. ✦ It even checks profiles, cross-matching them. You can literally watch the browser scroll and do its thing. It found a bunch of duplicate names on Threads (not the same accounts, just matching @ handles), immediately spotted the difference, explained why, and tracked down the right profiles. These are just a eye blink of the thing's it can do, and i choose to mention this because it feels more related on here. 1/2
