R2 Updatearoo Summer 2025
A lot of my work on R2 this summer has been transparent from the outside. I did a major rewiring project that shed a couple pounds of weight in excess wire. Relocated some components to the inside shoulders on small shelves, and solidified some plans for implementing more servos. I learned some lessons about moving parts with servo arms and the ratio between the lengths of the servo arms. Also feeling the regret from not getting some of my hinges riveted in place before the exterior skins were attached. Live and learn I guess. Anyway, R2 survived two food truck nights, and the children (Padawans) of Los Angeles taught me where his weak points are. I think this little Astromech sparked some interest in robotics and engineering for some school kids which I count as a win.
