AI Can Now Easily Unmask Your Secret Online Life (Even If You Use a Fake Name)
A new study reveals that advanced AI chatbots can easily unmask individuals' true identities from their online posts, even when using pseudonyms. The AI system, developed by researchers from ETH Zurich, Anthropic, and MATS, analyzes posts for personal clues, searches the internet for matches, and reasons about the likelihood of a match, achieving a 67% success rate on Hacker News users and 68% on Reddit users. The process costs as little as $4, raising concerns about the erosion of online anonymity and privacy.
