Panasonic, the former plasma king, will no longer make its own TVs | Ars Technica
Last month Sony sold half their TV business to TCL that signaled the end of an era; This marks the end of an era for Japanese television manufacturers.
Panasonic, once a leader in plasma TVs, announced that it will no longer manufacture its own TVs. Instead, Chinese company Skyworth will take over manufacturing, marketing, and selling Panasonic-branded TVs. Panasonic will continue to provide expertise and quality assurance, and will support all Panasonic TVs sold up to March 2026 and those available from April. This move reflects a broader trend of Japanese companies exiting the TV production business, with South Korean and Chinese manufacturers now dominating global TV sales.
