NAS vs Cloud Storage: Which Wins for Reliability, Security, and Cost?
Hey all! I’m setting up a micro business (team of 3) needing a smart storage solution for client files, backups, and collaborative projects. I’m torn between setting up a NAS (more control, upfront cost) or subscribing to cloud storage (ease, recurring fees). Key concerns: - Security: Client data is sensitive. - Cost: Long-term savings vs. convenience. - Access: Remote work is a must. - Scalability: We’re growing, but not exploding or going parabolic. Questions: 1. Would a NAS pay off in 2–3 years, or is cloud simpler? 2. Any hidden pitfalls with either option? 3. Best practices for backups beyond the primary solution? I’m leaning toward NAS for control but worry about setup headaches. Cloud feels “set and forget,” but fees add up. What’s your take? Please do share your experiences or rants. Thanks!
