Manufacturer issues remote kill command to disable smart vacuum after engineer blocks it from collecting data — user revives it with custom hardware and Python scripts to run offline
An engineer discovered that his iLife A11 smart vacuum was sending telemetry data to the manufacturer without his consent. After blocking the telemetry servers, the vacuum was remotely bricked by the manufacturer. The engineer disassembled the vacuum, found the kill command, and reversed it, allowing the vacuum to run offline using custom hardware and Python scripts.
