Privacy Telecom ‘Cape’ Introduces ‘Disappearing Call Logs’ That Delete Every 24 Hours

Cape, a privacy-focused telecommunications company, has introduced a feature that automatically deletes users' call data records every 24 hours, breaking with the telecom industry standard of keeping logs for months or years. This feature, called 'disappearing call logs,' aims to minimize data collection and storage, with CEO John Doyle stating that there is no business purpose to keep most logs longer than a day. Cape, a mobile virtual network operator, runs its service on existing telecom infrastructure and can modify data retention policies because it operates its own mobile core. The company has not warned law enforcement about this change, stating that they will find out in the same way as everyone else. Cape still complies with CALEA, which requires telecom companies to respond to legal data demands.
