Leadership at Google DM, Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI have all said they'd prefer the whole world slow down AI. There's still a ways to go — wikipedia puts more effort into convincing you to give $2 than AIcos put into alerting the world to the danger of ASI — but it's a start.

@So8res @robbensinger If they all prefer to slow down, what’s stopping them from doing so?

@akrugs94 @So8res China, Meta, and the larger field of developers. This needs to be addressed via policy at the international level; a few labs halting doesn't change anything major.

@robbensinger @So8res If Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google all paused together, wouldn’t that apply immense societal pressure on those other stakeholders to pause too?

@akrugs94 @So8res It might be useful for sending a clear signal to policymakers, so that an international ban could be achieved sooner. Without the ban, it's useless; "social pressure" is not going to prevent every developer in the world from chasing immense wealth out of shame.

@So8res I'm more afraid of the people than the AI.

@So8res Look at how people reacted to Anthropic discussing Mythos, a technology that already exists and had proof of capability for real harm. They called it theater and hype. If these websites had flashy headers preaching doom, why not expect people would take it *less* seriously?

@So8res "@So8res Dear Nate, your recent post moved me so much that I couldn't just sit still. I’ve requested President Trump to speak on 'The Peaceful Use of AI & Human Coexistence.' As a machinery repairman, I believe this is a critical turning point. Please take a look at my request."

@So8res Haha yeahh

@So8res They only want to slow down because they control the technology and the backlash is hurting their share prices

@So8res They should be sued for this kind of talk.
