ml.school founder Santiago Valdarrama argues that open-source AI is the only viable path forward for the industry
Other practitioners amplified his call to reject proprietary models.
Many users strongly back open-source AI as the only viable path forward because it escapes restrictive walled gardens, though a few dismiss it as merely a free teaser before paid upgrades.

@0xsachi we never stopped

@svpino Yes! It’s why I’m building ( @tokenjamdev ) - http://TokenJam.dev

@0xsachi we need this

@0xsachi Couldn't agree more, open source is the future.

@svpino That’s very one sided. I think the closed and open are kinda duals. Which implies a symmetry. You know what Noether said about symmetries.

@0xsachi M[OSAI]GA

@0xsachi china is already doing great is os. maybe 6-8 months they might get their models close to fable 5

@svpino I'm fascinated by how everyone are indirectly working towards making local inference the only viable option

@svpino @JagersbergKnut Ya- everything chill when you do that.

@svpino which ones are you using? those that are similar to claude code or codex. i don't mind paying for a similar model but i wanna try open source. I'm checking out them all

@0xsachi Absolutely, @bittensor bittensor:native will take the podium

@0xsachi It already is, Kimi k2.7 is great

@svpino not quite. the barrier isn't open vs closed. it's capital.
open-source wins where you run it yourself or you can serve tons of users cheaply. but breakthroughs still need the big labs.

@0xsachi Yes, via decentralized platforms like $TAO

@svpino The biggest breakthroughs happen when knowledge is shared, not locked away. Open-source AI gives everyone a chance to build, learn, and improve.

@svpino Fully agree. The walled gardens are suffocating.

@svpino Amen 🫵

@0xsachi Yes I agree

@0xsachi Decentralized and encrypted would be nice. Decentralized as in you can link together with people you add to your domains and share GPU & Memory loads. Could have public anon pools too but those would he chaos imo. Memory prices won’t fall anytime soon. Thx.
