Japanese used bookstores reportedly see a fivefold sales surge amid bulk buying

Tom's Hardware reports that Japanese used bookstores are seeing a fivefold sales surge as books are bought by the ton. It says one 50-ton order was sent to the US for AI scanning and destruction, while many other bulk purchases are thought to end up in foreign AI scan-and-shred facilities. The outlet says the short-term boom could lead to longer-term shortages and remove important works from circulation.
