OpenAI Introduces Agent Plugins Open Standard
Developers can build plugins once for use across multiple AI agents.
OpenAI Developers posted that developers can build a plugin once for use across compatible agent clients. The announcement presents Agent Plugins as an open standard developed with AWS, Cursor, GitHub, Code, and Vercel. It packages Agent Skills and supports MCP server configurations in a shared format. Compatible clients named at launch include Codex, ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Kiro, and Code. Romain Huet stated the move continues prior efforts with AGENTS.md, Agent Skills, and.agents config to make capabilities portable across agents.

DA dax@thdxri was very much against this it's a thin standard where most of the relevant stuff will be in client specific extensions anyway and it should not be coming from a company that does not even make an agent end users use

DA dax@thdxri don't wanna hear some corporate crap about "it's done in collaboration with blah blah" we've seen this before - every company is trying to land grab anything in the AI space standards are an easy one because they innately sound good but they create a lot of useless work
