It's actually super important that the Siri demo was kind of slow, because it emphasized it was real. Would be even better if it were live, though.

Positive users praise Apple's rebuilt Siri demo as a massive long-awaited improvement finally making it useful, while negative users call the presentation boring, underwhelming, and a miss for lacking excitement or firm timelines.
The other interesting thing to note from the keynote: watching the demos, there is ZERO doubt these are real, recorded demonstrations on live devices. There will be no confusion about what is real or fake like there was at WWDC 2024 and the initial attempt at the new Siri.

@markgurman is it just me or does the new siri still kinda feel a bit underwhelming? No hate

@markgurman I definitely noticed it took some time for some of the actions to happen even during the live Keynote. It gives us a realistic idea of what these things will feel like at first. I’m assuming over the next few betas and 27.X betas we will see improvement in overall speed.

@markgurman For an European user without kids, there is nothing new with the update I think…great 😄

@markgurman Yeah I noticed they made an effort to show an over the shoulder POV synced with the hand movements to dispel any doubt of that.

@MaiTaiTheCat @markgurman Well surprise surprise but wwdc isn’t made for just you and your preferences lol.

@markgurman I hated that they use so much time talking about the apps for kids and how to control what your kids are using. Not all of us have kids and some of us parents know how to parent our children so we don’t need Apple to do that for us.

@markgurman IT"S SO BORING. Literally they just put gemini on the phone.

@markgurman The new Siri interface kind of s…. Would you agree?

@benthompson "Coming to public beta later this year". Not great when there isn't a date or even a season.

@markgurman 2 observations:
1. If Apple did live keynotes like they used to until 2020, this debacle would’ve been avoided because they’d have been forced to admit it didn’t work.
2. AVP features prominently on the main page today. Doesn’t look like the end of the line to me…

@markgurman Siri AI is Google Gemma (local model) and Gemini (cloud model). That’s why it works. 🤔

@benthompson They should have put a big, bold disclaimer at the end "all demos shot in real time".

@markgurman But still not everything two years ago was promised and not really great - just late 😒 (Writing from the supposed to be the first “Apple Intelligence” iPhone 16 Pro)

@Andyreeeww @markgurman This new Siri is exciting for me. Finally after 15 years it’ll be useful.

That was the best Apple event in years.
It was the first time in a very long time that I felt the announcements were catered towards actually improving the user experience instead of being catered towards offering flashy feature checklists for marketing purposes.
There was a sense of humility and purpose in this keynote that I haven’t seen from Apple in a very long time.
The combination of Apple being on the defensive over AI and Alan Dye leaving the company - may have been exactly the shot in the arm that Apple needs.

@Andyreeeww @markgurman It's good. People don't know what they want, man.

@noxflux @markgurman but understand English only. So it's crippled Gemini

@markgurman I hadn’t paid this part special attention, but now that I think of it, the device took half the stage on each demo.

@markgurman That’s great. I can imagine that that some people are skeptical because of the first Apple Intelligence demo. Oh how that turned out…
