Microsoft has put its India South Central cloud region in Hyderabad into service, expanding its Indian footprint to four regions as it pitches local cloud capacity for AI and regulated workloads.

The company says the new region has a three-zone architecture and has been designated a strategic hub for Asia and the Global South. In its September announcement, Microsoft said more Azure and AI services will become available over time.

That rollout detail matters. A cloud region being live does not mean every service is immediately offered there. Microsoft says customers will be able to deploy eligible sensitive workloads in India as supported services arrive, using controls intended to help meet security, compliance and data-sovereignty needs.

The announcement places the buildout within Microsoft's US$20.5 billion commitment to India. For organizations that need to keep workloads closer to Indian users or within local regulatory frameworks, the value will depend on which services reach the Hyderabad region and when.
