Codex Team to Reset Rate Limits Tomorrow
OpenAI engineers cite image handling, computer history, and title generation as causes of excess usage.
Thibault Sottiaux, engineering lead on the Codex team, posted that the group found inefficiencies with images during long sessions, high usage in Computer History, and excess drain from a conversation title generator. A tiger team worked through the weekend on fixes. Sottiaux first wrote that a reset would land around 14pm PST tomorrow, then corrected the time to 2pm PST. Vaibhav Srivastav echoed the announcement and apologized for the inconvenience. One user reported faster-than-normal usage even without images or computer history features.

Update on rate limits in Codex. We do see that for some users the cache hit rate has been worse this week than the stable state the weeks before. This could explain that usage is draining somewhat faster for those users as hitting the cache consistently is an important component…

@thsottiaux something is def broken. i don't have images, not using computer history. could be the conversation titles. i used my banked reset with the same two agents i've been running for weeks and it's consuming usage 2x faster than normal
