Generally I get the feeling that "we" are letting young people down a bit, in the sense that it feels harder for them to join this exploration/prospecting.

At a human level, theory seems to be in good shape - Ariel and In-Koo organizing institutions like this helps maintain both the knowledge and culture of theory, and investing in the next generation.
But the intellectual challenge of focusing the field is a formidable one!

And, best of all, the field is filled with sincere, serious, thoughtful people -- if Ariel is right that economic theory is a humanistic enterprise, it's great to have good humans along for the ride.
