Czech Language Requirement Limits Senior Software Engineer Hiring In Czechia
Commentary on X
Highest rankedI run an engineering firm in Czechia, we have 180+ engineers working remotely across LATAM, Eastern Europe. Our clients are mostly in US. This restriction is honestly insane. Firstly, because of the hiring pool (it's too small). Secondly, because Czech workers will never work on anything after 6PM - you need somebody always ready to work when something breaks.

@GergelyOrosz That sounds like complete nonsense. We have English-only speaking colleagues for more trivial roles in an EV charger business in Slovakia, and it's working out perfectly fine. Having that as a hard requirement makes no sense.

@GergelyOrosz Actually, it's a great idea to prevent indians and niggers from filling that post.
@GergelyOrosz makes zero sense

This requirement is a head-scratcher for two reasons: 1. The language of software engineering is English 2. The EU has free movement. Czechia has 10M residents, the EU has 450M. Of which ~440M do not speak Czech. 3. If you seriously limit the hiring pool, either pay a lot more (+advertise this) or drop requirements!
