London rail facial-recognition trial logs one false alert and no alert-driven arrests

The Guardian reports, citing a freedom of information document obtained by Liberty Investigates, that 18 facial-recognition deployments at London railway stations between February and July 2026 produced one watchlist alert, which was a false match. British Transport Police said officers made other arrests during the deployments, but none resulted directly from a facial-recognition alert. In August, the force announced a four-month extension that would include London Underground stations.
