People love to reason from the promise that AI will match or exceed humans at "cognitive tasks," which they define as anything that can be done in front of a computer.
I think this is an actively unhelpful concept. Here @deanwball does a nice job unpacking one aspect of why:

@hlntnr @JustinBullock14 @deanwball This does seem a strange grouping, and particularly misleading since it evokes “cognitive functions” which are very different—ie planning, reasoning, perception, etc. Also makes one wonder about the apparently non-cognitive tasks that this grouping implies…
