It has been shown that it can be hacked, that it’s poorly managed, and too much information about private citizens can be found on it by other private citizens. The government using it will abuse it because the government is made up of people who want to stay in power and managed by petty bureaucrats who will use their access to this tech for personal use as well as civil compliance.

If the blue cities you mentioned, fully funded their police department, backed the blue and convicted crimes, their crime stats would drop without government surveillance.
