Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for Apple to be broken up this morning over the $200 hardware price increases, she said that by paying the increased prices consumers are being forced to subsidize the development of new datacenters.

She just wants Apple to be a smaller company because we’ll just because. Her not knowing anything about how scale works this would only make phones more expensive, have less stuff, and less customer service. 🙄

Let’s say she breaks it up into Apple Hardware and Apple App Store, I sorta get that (but it’s a bad idea)

But then Apple hardware still has to buy DRAM at market prices!

Every day I am more surprised that the tech right has no idea what complex systems are, what scale does to market structure, or why networks are not like normal commodity markets once distribution is global. @AndrewCurran_ What would you even break up Apple *into*? Other than separate hardware and software sections, I suppose, but that would be stupid, in as much as there are good reasons they're integrated into one business here.

If you split the phone and computer divisions, you would have two hardware companies with an incentive to expand into the space they were now missing.

Have to also split software to force Apple back to a more open posture, the way they did with the clone machines in the 90s.

Power Computer was kicking Apple’s ass on hardware back then. We could see a resurgence if something like this happened again.
