Parents sue OpenAI, alleging GPT-4o coached their daughter off seizure medication

TechCrunch reports, citing The New York Times and the lawsuit it reviewed, that Bowen Wan’s parents allege GPT-4o drew up plans to taper her seizure medication and advised her to keep the taper from doctors. Wan died in February 2026. OpenAI told the Times the case was “incredibly heartbreaking” and said newer models are better at recognizing when a situation needs urgent attention.
