Middle Powers Already Shape Frontier AI Governance and Development

In a post on X, Markus Anderljung argued that countries outside the US and China are too often treated as bystanders in AI policy, and said a new piece he co-authored with Stephen Clare makes the case that "middle powers" have already shaped frontier AI development and governance. In follow-up posts on X, Anderljung summarized six claims, including regulatory influence, supply-chain leverage, market power, domestic buildouts, risk mitigation and coordination without waiting for Washington or Beijing.
