What are you talking about? Even at conservative American orgs or German bureaucratic startups, this cost is rather low and has great upside. Any engineering leader, if they don’t have this budget, can sell this to the executive team easily. If it fits within a quarter, easy to sell. 10 years ago, I worked at a bank that had a product built 10 years earlier. All app logic was in the DB, and only 1 guy knew how to manage it. The business folks loved this guy because he was well-spoken and talented. He chose to learn this to be valuable to the biz and had many ideas for driving impact outside of that area. The business case to migrate so a B player can maintain and your A player can move to more valuable work is easy. You have great engineering POVs, but this take is not grounded in reality. If it was $1.5M, yes, harder, but $150k is no biggie.
