Perplexity posted that hybrid compute is live in its Mac app. The system runs search, planning, and reasoning in the cloud while sending private files or sensitive information to a local model on the device. Output combines both without uploading the sensitive data. A privacy gate on the Mac detects PII, and users can process that step locally. The company also posted that it is open-sourcing the PII classifier. Founder Aravind Srinivas noted the chance to shift token use to Apple Silicon.
