2 postsI was in the side of that said the SaaSpocalypse will not happen and I still think many strong SaaS with large followings of knowledge built into it will survive, knowledge that has high stakes (medicine/taxes) will stay for some time. But I increasingly feel like in-house built/bespoke software is going to take off like wildfire in the coming years. The results will be more nuanced than all SaaS is gone. Some of it will spin out into new SaaS, mostly API first, that other AI can integrate easily, and some will stay in house with a virtuous loop of self trained or fine tuned in house models supporting it, next to frontier models directing them. It's entirely possible that we'll see millions or billions of bespoke stacks bloom. And many companies on the longer tail of the diffusion of innovation curve will stick with what they know for far longer than we think because they are inherently risk adverse. But the world is changing. Especially as machines get good enough to just write John Carmack level machine code direct and test it and maintain it in an autonomous way. I came late to this party so I lay my cards on the table. But wisdom is about adapting as new information comes in and not clinging rigidly to the past.
"We replaced Salesforce with a vibe-coded CRM built for our own workflows. The custom system integrated our AI agents more effectively, worked better for the team, and made Salesforce unnecessary. That decision cut a $600,000 annual software bill to zero." Is this an anomaly or the start of a much larger trend @chamath @Avishai_ab @jasonlk @benioff
As the person who mainstreamed the “SaaS is Dead” idea, the vast majority of companies will not vibe code a CRM. There’s too much risk in getting something wrong. Too much maintenance. Ultimately companies need someone else to blame when software breaks. The more likely scenario is OpenAI/Anthropic agents are just able to do…everything…one day soon.
