Short of government intervention, Anthropic and OpenAI are probably fucked. Personally, I hope the government will let capitalism run its course; if they can’t systematically turn a profit, why should the taxpayers come to their rescue?
Between the rise of the Chinese models, the death of tokenmaxxing, and the lackluster SpaceX performance post IPO, I am having a hard time seeing Anthropic IPO’ing at a trillion, and having an even harder time imagining OpenAI doing so.

Personally, I hope the government will let capitalism run its course; if they can’t systematically turn a profit, why should the taxpayers come to their rescue? Neither company has had any respect for the artists and creators whose work they trained on; neither has done anything substantive to address the threat of job loss that they themselves have alleged. Both have acknowledged that their products could cause serious harm to humanity, and persisted anyway. They have been it for themselves. If they can’t make it, so be it.
