Tech job openings rise as demand for hardware engineers surges

Business Insider reports that TrueUp was tracking more than 280,000 open jobs at tech companies in October 2026, up strongly from the start of the year. TrueUp recorded about 190,000 tech layoffs so far in 2026, compared with roughly 430,000 in 2023. Hardware engineering openings have surged amid AI infrastructure spending, while software engineering listings have held up.
