Crazy that some people in France are concerned about air conditioning contributing to climate change, when this is their electricity mix:

Positive users praise France's low-carbon nuclear grid for enabling air conditioning with minimal climate impact, while negative users object to anti-AC environmentalist messaging and note risks like overheating plants.
No Digg Deeper questions have been answered for this story yet.

You did, guys! You have a high-income, low-carbon economy. Enjoy it! Crank up the A/C!

@jmhorp I don't think Americans realize how fucking relentless the ANTI AC propaganda is in this fucking country.
It's nonstop garbage form journalists and politicians, on the radio, as soon as it's a bit hot.
France’s electricity generation is mostly nuclear! They don’t even have to worry about the emissions consequences of AC!
I find the “Europeans hate AC, derp” debates silly, but then you read these death tolls from *just this week*, and we know air conditioning could’ve prevented a whole lot of these.
Climate change is horrific, and Europe will need to adapt, ASAP.

@jmhorp Not only they refuse to bring an A/C plan among the public services (including hospital and young education schools), but they also want to close every single nuclear plan we have because it’s a dirty energy
The left has took over France and it’s insufferable 💀

@jmhorp France uses *too little* electricity in the summer.
Heat pumps would fix a lot of things.

@jmhorp Need to know more about the mix at the margin to assess impact of more electrical use for ACs

@jmhorp Germans seeing this

@jmhorp And AC takes less energy than heating. It uses an electric heat pump that is over 100% efficient and the temperature delta is smaller when cooling than heating.

@jmhorp The French aversion to air conditioning is another symptom of the common French disease in thinking their actions are global important

@jmhorp "I am so glad I went for that hour long run! I'm now going to eat an entire cheesecake because my offset means i've earned it!"

@jmhorp Only 66% of emissions from air conditioning come from electricity. The rest is from manufacturing and the leaking of cooling agents over time.

@jmhorp French here. It's not the population that is against A/C, it's the government. They are harassing us 24/7 with lies about A/C, pollution, power consumption, coolant leaks, ...On top of that, they force you to go through their authorized installers for multiple k€ to dissuade you

@constans they do have a problem, which is that sometimes the river is so hot it can't work as cooling and they have to shut the plant down. They've started building District cooling plants that use the ocean or a lake as a heatsink but they need to speed that up

@jmhorp But France will have a problem With 56 nuclear reactors that need a refuelling that requires at least one month, the low energy consumption at summer was a great sollution.
It's a big problem to require same amount of energy in winter than in summer.

@constans There is an odd and extremely widespread belief among european leaders that A/C spreads disease.

@TheAnimatrix33 @Sardoche_Lol @jmhorp Quel rapport ? C'est les politiques de gauches qui refusent la clim' à tout prix par pure idéologie. Assume d'avoir eu tord.

@Sardoche_Lol @jmhorp Les milliardaires, ces fameux gauchistes.......

@Sardoche_Lol @jmhorp Oh ta gueule toi

@constans They are wise to the sinister plot to make them work more during the summer

@jmhorp Sadly, it's not just "some". It's either the majority, or a very large minority. People have been brainwashed by the "progressive" media (which is almost all of them) into a state of intellectual torpor.
