Nearly four in 10 US adults are part of an online community
Pew Research Center finds 48% of adults under 30 are members, with social media the most common setting.
TLDR
Pew Research Center surveyed 9,750 US adults from May 26 to June 1, 2026. Nearly four in 10 are part of an online community, rising to 48% among adults under 30. About seven in 10 members say these spaces add something to their lives. But about half of Americans overall say relationships formed online aren't as meaningful as those formed in person.
