Some Apple retail employees have been told to discourage customers without preorders from trying to buy an iPhone Duo in person on launch day, MacRumors reports. Employees at the stores concerned were advised that there would likely be no units available for walk-in purchases on Oct. 23.
The warning is not a confirmed worldwide policy. MacRumors said the scope and firmness of the guidance remain unclear, and Apple has not publicly specified which stores, if any, will have walk-in stock. The company’s online store was telling shoppers to check again on Oct. 24 for pickup availability, according to the report, but that message did not guarantee inventory.
Apple opened preorders on Oct. 16 and lists Oct. 23 as the start of availability for the $1,999 foldable phone in the United States, according to its launch announcement. Demand quickly pushed online delivery estimates into 2027, the Financial Times reported, with Apple describing demand as “nothing short of extraordinary.” Those online delays show that supply is tight, but they do not establish how much inventory any individual Apple Store will receive.
