Brandon Thomas's AI-assisted WordCraft reportedly offers a free Microsoft Word alternative

In an Oct. 15 BGR article, Jonathan Sayers reported that ArtCraft developer Brandon Thomas recently released WordCraft, a free-to-use word processor that functions much like Microsoft Word. Sayers gave no specific release date.

The report also describes GridCraft in the ArtCraft Launcher as an alternative to Microsoft Excel and CADCraft as an Autodesk alternative. BGR calls the apps “vibe coded”: Thomas prompted AI agents to generate some or all of their code and used Claude as a development assistant.

BGR argues that free software like this could give users a reason to drop a Microsoft 365 subscription. The article reports no subscription cancellations or measured effect on Microsoft's business. It doesn't recommend an automatic switch, either: BGR points to risks associated with AI-generated software and urges caution before moving important work to ArtCraft.
