I've been doing consumer research a long time and the resistance against this is higher than any other technology paradigm shift I've ever seen.
My wife even says "no, you aren't getting one." Luckily I have a few years to convince her.
But I'm quite convinced my kids will get one in their lifetime.
The stronger the resistance to new technology the more important it is, I've found by tracking consumer belief through several paradigm shifts since the personal computer came on scene back in the 1970s.
Remember, Woz's own bosses told him five times, he told me, that no one would buy a personal computer.
Why would I get one?
Brain computer interfaces will bring super powers.
And, luckily, most of the next decade, at least when it comes to consumers, will be devices that are more like headphones, hats, or glasses. Which helps get over the resistance.
