Anthropic disables Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models globally after US Commerce Department imposes strict export controls

From the statement: 'The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘤 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘦𝘴. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.'

This allegedly was triggered by a successful jailbreak of Mythos by an unnamed group who reported it to the government. We will hopefully get details soon.

Apparently the administration asked Anthropic to not release Mythos 5 or Fable 5 at all, and this is a reaction to them doing it anyway.

The jailbreak that triggered all of this was reported by Amazon.

This apparently applies to everyone who is not an American citizen, inside or outside of the country. Foreign nationals and corporations are both banned from use.

Apparently Mythos 5 specifically is being placed under special restriction by the Pentagon and will not be allowed for use even by most Government employees. Restricted to agencies only.

Anthropic is disabling Fable 5 for everyone. All users. It's going to be a fight.

@AndrewCurran_ Seems like an overreaction by the U.S. government. Fable was public for a few days and the world didn't end.

@AndrewCurran_ foreign governments will have to give up so much to get access to mythos class models now. This is kinda insane, and it will be abused by the admin, this is like tariffs but 10x more powerful imo.
