I know everyone loves our entropy generating lava lamps in San Francisco, but think our wall of entropy in Lisbon is my favorite.
**scotty529** Cloudflare’s San Francisco HQ has the original “Wall of Entropy”: ~100 lava lamps in the lobby, continuously filmed by a camera. The chaotic, never-repeating movement of the wax creates true physical randomness. That video feed is processed into entropy and fed into their LavaRand system as an extra, independent source for cryptographic keys — defense in depth alongside CPU hardware RNGs. Inspired by SGI’s 1990s Lavarand project. They’ve since added similar physical entropy walls elsewhere, like the wave machines in Lisbon you’re seeing in the video above.
