Cloudflare Releases Vinext 1.0 Beta For Next.js On Vite

Removing the experimental label represents a big step forward in stability and feature coverage. It works in most apps we’ve tested, and is already running in production.

ISR on Cloudflare is enabled by a new Workers Cache feature -- more details on this soon.

Vinext 1.0.0 is coming later this year with a focus on reliability, security, and complete Next.js compat.

How you can help: migrate your existing Next.js apps to Vinext. If it doesn’t work perfectly, let us know. All compatibility issues will be prioritized!

vinext started as an AI driven experiment: could one person + agents reimplement enough of Next.js on Vite to be useful? The answer was yes. But since that first release, the story has been the humans turning it into something real.

That’s especially @James_Elicx who's taken over as project lead, plus @nathanv246, @Divkix, @unsafemut, @hyoban_cc, @TheAlexLichter, @MaxtuneLee and others hammering on compatibility, tests, real apps, and rough edges.

We started Vinext to give developers more options for how they deploy their websites. We are thankful to Vercel and the Next.js team for their continued work on the core framework, and the ongoing work of similar projects in the space like OpenNext.

The performance gains vs Next.js are still significant in our benchmarks, but smaller than in the original launch post. That’s mostly because Next.js got faster. Kudos to the Next.js team for this work. Competition is healthy! Everyone benefits.

As a reminder: vinext works everywhere not just Cloudflare. Because it’s built on @vite_js and @nitrojsdev, it can target Cloudflare, Node, Vercel, Netlify, AWS, Deno, and more. It’s standing on great foundations.
