@geoffreyirving @resolution_org I've become increasingly sympathetic to the Mercier & Sperber story around post-hoc rationalization in humans -- comes from the need to convince or justify oneself to (skeptical/vigilant) interlocutors (cf. "reasons are for social consumption").
