Will AI take our jobs? 🧐 We asked @alexolegimas , the new Director of AGI Economics at Google DeepMind and a Prof. at University of Chicago. His answer messes with both camps: he thinks blue-collar work is in more danger than white-collar, and that most people are panicking about the wrong thing.
His argument is that a job is a bunch of tasks, not one thing AI replaces. what matters is whether cheaper output makes people buy way more. if it does, you can end up hiring more people, not fewer. The automation panic is 200 years old 😱
The people winning aren't the ones with the best jobs, they're the ones adopting AI fastest. He even thinks not using AI could become a status symbol, like shopping at Whole Foods for "human-made" bread.
