Hinkley Point C might be delayed again.
Why? Because Natural England say the £700 million spent on fish protection at Britain's next nuclear power station is not enough.
We can't go on like this.

Many users called fish protection rules delaying Hinkley Point C ridiculous self-sabotage and insane in cost while one hoped proportionality would unlock more clean energy.

@BritainRemade Reminder: a two-year delay to Hinkley Point C Unit 1 would mean about 24TWh less clean firm power on the grid, between 2-4bn cubic metres more gas burnt, and as a result between 4-8m additional tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

@BritainRemade The key point for me is how few fish all this spending will protect. What would £700m on fish habitat restoration look like?

@BritainRemade Your video game has kicked up a notch!

@BritainRemade

@BritainRemade In trawler terms, how many fish are we actually saving here? @Sam_Dumitriu @J_D_89

@BritainRemade Thank you for highlighting the ridiculous situation Sam. Being a poor country is a choice and we’re regulating ourselves into being one.

@BritainRemade Would be great to see some proportionality here so we can all enjoy more clean and cheap energy!

@Sam_Dumitriu @BritainRemade And that would cost billpayers about £1.5 billion pounds at current electricity prices. Insane.

@BritainRemade Shocking!

@bswud @BritainRemade @Sam_Dumitriu @J_D_89 The equivalent output of 1 trawler per year. You could buy a trawler and retire the fisherman for the same effect.
Or you could just accept it’s worth the trade off, for producing electricity for millions of homes.

@DuncanStott @BritainRemade 100%. Our nature spending almost all being done from inefficient taxes on development makes our nature spending really ineffective. It is lose lose!

@BritainRemade Four APR-1400 reactors at Barakah reached commercial operation under FANR oversight. Meanwhile Natural England wants more than £700 million for fish protection at Hinkley.

@BritainRemade Another unelected Quango, that has made up its own rules, telling us what to do. With energy policy already a shambles we need to get Hinckley C producing power ASAP. @Ed_Miliband needs to override this stupid decision. @KemiBadenoch

@BritainRemade

@BritainRemade They are a racket and I mean that literally.

@BritainRemade We need fish for nutrition more than we need data centres ...
