Paul Graham Says US Data Center Ban Shifts AI Progress Abroad
Y Combinator co-founder Paul Graham addressed proposals to restrict American data centers for AI.
Paul Graham posted that preventing companies from building data centers in America would not slow the overall rate of AI progress. It would only slow progress inside the United States. Matthew Barnett replied that the policy would still slow AI progress modestly, because data centers cost more to build outside the country and therefore would not appear at the same pace elsewhere.
Preventing companies from building data centers in America wouldn't slow down the rate of progress in AI. It would merely slow down the rate of progress in AI in America.
