Hot take on a bad day for OpenAI:
WeWork’s IPO fell apart.
I’ve been calling OpenAI the (possible) WeWork of AI for a long time.
I will not be surprised if their IPO plans apart, too. Their apparent pondering of “drastic” price cuts seem last-ditch, and will make the long term profitability story even harder to tell. The rejection of SoftBank’s second effort to get a loan against their shares is embarrassing, and says the banks aren’t buying OpenAI’s alleged valuation.
Big winner in this is probably Anthropic; should help their IPO.
And then the big question will be: can hold off Google?
I have no idea.
