Apple has opened Apple Music Hall, a 600-capacity live venue inside Battersea Power Station in London that is built as both a concert room and a recording-and-broadcast facility.

In its September 21 announcement, Apple said the room has a 38-foot stage that can be reconfigured for conventional or in-the-round performances, plus a 48-speaker system designed for Spatial Audio. Two dedicated recording and mix studios sit behind the stage, and the venue is wired for 16 or more cameras feeding a broadcast control room.

That setup is the point of the project: Apple says an artist can play an intimate show and leave with a Spatial Audio recording, a broadcast-ready mix and multicamera video from the same performance. The company also says shows from the hall will be livestreamed globally.

The opening expands the company’s production footprint at Battersea rather than simply adding a branded performance space. Apple said its London-based Apple Music Radio hosts and shows will also broadcast from newly opened studios in the building. Apple has not announced a public schedule or described how tickets for individual performances will be handled.
