AI Powers New Physics Lab and Starship Mission
Physical Superintelligence joins a nonprofit effort to send the first probe to Alpha Centauri.
Physical Superintelligence PBC announced a $58M seed round to build an AI-powered physics research lab. Co-founders Matthew Pines, Alex Wissner-Gross and Alex Klokus stated the lab will discover and commercialize new physics breakthroughs. Pines also confirmed PSI's role in a nonprofit led by Philip Johnston, Adi Oltean and Ezra Feilden of Starcloud. The group plans to launch humanity's first spacecraft toward Alpha Centauri. Ars Technica reported the mission aims for the lowest possible cost.

PL Pledditor@Pledditor@matthew_pines @alexwg @AKlokus @Breakthrough Hate to be that guy but this venture reads like total slop. A 58m raise for just getting compute and pointing AI agents at physics research? I can do that at home. Where's the moat? Where's the product?
JO Jordan@IHateMyXHandle@SciGuySpace It's supposed to take 80,000 years to get to the star. This seems like the worst use of money for research possible. This may be the first space project I am not excited for, and I really don't see why people are hyping this.
