Cmux Creates Separate Panes For Folders And Workspaces

Something I don't get about cmux:

If I file->open folder I get a "group" in the sidebar and then if I press + to open a new workspace. But the "folder"/"group" gets its own panes AND the workspace gets its own panes.

Am I dumb?
