Amazon's new Alexa tablets reportedly swap Fire OS for Android 16
BGR reports Google Play access on the new tablets, alongside preloaded Amazon apps and nonremovable promotional widgets.
TLDR
Christine Persaud reports for BGR that Amazon's new Alexa tablets run Android 16 instead of Fire OS, bringing native Google Play access and a wider choice of apps. Fire OS was already based on Android, Persaud notes, so the distinction is in the software and app access. BGR also describes preloaded Amazon apps and two home-screen advertising widgets that users cannot remove.
