Meta removes AI-training language from pending commercial terms after criticism
Nieman Lab reports publishers with business accounts would have to stop commercial use of Meta’s services to reject the terms.
TLDR
Nieman Lab reported that Meta’s original commercial terms could permit scraping news sites for AI training. Meta removed the sentence allowing use of crawled content to “train” its products after criticism, The Verge reports. The revised terms, set for October 30, 2026, still authorize crawling for advertising and business products. East Bay Times reports the News/Media Alliance remains concerned; Meta says its use of web crawlers will not change.
