Standard experience booking an Uber
“5 minutes away”
I order it
“Finding your driver…”
“Pickup in 7 minutes”
I open my timer
9 minutes and 21 seconds later, it arrives
This is so tedious and I am tired of being deceived at the margin

Many users criticized Uber for inaccurate ETAs and deceptive practices like lying about pickup times, while one praised its speed over Lyft.

@johnloeber early on an estimate had me choose uber over public transit to an appointment, but then the uber was super late so i was late and it just soured me on the brand completely, like their logo causes me the anxiety of being late, it's a pretty bad association, like nega advertising

@johnloeber “Are you sure you want to cancel? We’re just about to match you with a driver in 2 minutes or less.”
> deception round 2 follows; this is why I choose Waymo/Robotaxi

Such a genuinely retarded post how is uber supposed to flawlessly predict down the millisecond how fast or slow someone drives
Whether they hit this specific red light or not, whether or not their tire is 20% lower on pressure, whether the rain makes them a slightly more anxious than average driver
I’m not usually a lib like check your privilege it’s like what do you expect lmao
Also broke ass problem ngl

@johnloeber Uber is a deeply duplicitous company

@johnloeber My last uber driver was also running lyft. He would accept both jobs and make the lesser paying rider wait. During my ride the driver accepted a lyft ride who probably waited an extra 10-15 minutes bc I was still being driven to my destination.
What can we do about this?

What’s cool is that I ordered an Uber for a friend last night that had too many drinks over dinner.
I told the @Uber driver to take my buddy to his home and places him in the car.
Did the driver do that? No. He drove away and let him out of the car and canceled the ride.
Instead, I see drunk friend getting into his car in the parking lot and I had to go grab his keys.
Thanks uber!

@johnloeber SO DUMB

@johnloeber It's the statistically validated version of "you'll put up with it, fuck you." from South Park.

@johnloeber The worst is booking out of SFO. Takes like twenty minutes just to find a driver, who is then 12 minutes away, and cancels when he sees you're at the airport. Selection box says "3 minutes"

@selectsand especially severe in nyc

@johnloeber When you are in an uber next time, take a look at the time it shows on the driver's app vs yours, there's like +2 minutes on theirs usually 🌚

@johnloeber >10 min before you need pickup choose wait & save >wait >if it shows up early just pay the late fee and then dispute it

@johnloeber I’m pretty sure they just blatantly lie about estimated pickup time now

@BishopFromArk @johnloeber @loobah_l @Uber Your friend probably told him to let him out of the car. They can’t drive them home against their will.

@luctduclos @johnloeber Because it used to be more accurate.
And then once you have a driver that you can see on the app GPS, it doesn’t move from a parking lot for 5 minutes, or it makes another random (non-uber) stop.
Alsonthe quality of drivers in general has gone way down since covid.

@johnloeber John might not be old enough to remember when you’d call a cab and wait 30-60 minutes for it to never arrive.

@johnloeber Companies should be forced to sell insurance against claims like this. They can charge whatever margin they like; that would just force them to be honest

@johnloeber When I was young and and relied on mostly public transportation to get around, the idea of being able to summon a private ride within ten minutes simply by pushing a button on a device in my pocket was the stuff of science fiction.
We are so spoiled today!

@johnloeber Priority pickup doesn’t work either anymore.

@johnloeber i’m surprised nobody has brought an action against them for it, given that their “estimated” wait times surely influence consumer choice in the direction of spending more for things like priority or black
