3/ Under SB315, a company could meet every one of its standards, get a full sign-off from the auditor, and still release a model that proves to be dangerous.
2/ SB 315 is a great step toward the independent checks that regulatory markets are built on. But an audit really is only as good as the standard it’s measured against, and that’s where this bill, critical as it is, still falls short. There is no check on whether a developer’s safety standards are enough.
1/ Illinois just became the first state to require frontier AI developers to undergo annual third-party audits. Gov. Pritzker signed the AI Safety Measures Act (SB 315) this week, going beyond California and New York, which only require published frameworks and incident reports.
